Aloha ~~

Can you set a category to zero (free) but provide the option of it being Featured for a price?

All listings will be free, but we'd like to provide the option to pay a nominal amount if someone wants to escalate to Featured get more attention for their ad.

Seems to me that coding/programming wise, the PayPal link should not show unless the "Featured" upgrade box is checked.

Yes, you can have a free classifieds site and charge for featured ads.

Its set up in the dashboard.

Quick follow-up question: Can the admin also Feature an ad manually that hasn't paid for an upgrade?

Yes. By going to the ad in the admin panel, the administrator can make the post a sticky, which will make it a featured ad.

Ok, I have a question, what about all the ads that crowded up the featured slider before you set the payment up?, how can you remove those from the slider without deleting the posts?

When you have at least 5 featured/stickied ads, these will automatically replace the ones that were picked up previously.

I have another problem, and a question, I turned on Featured ads price $5.00, and someone listed something, I noticed it still showed up in the featured slider... I checked funds and no $5.00 deposit, so my question is, do you have to turn on "Charge for Listing Ads", and set the categories to 0.00 in order for it to work properly?

Yes, ad packs need to be on and $0.00 package set for a free ad. This is something that will be improved on in a future release of CP, but for now this is the way it works.
