    Genesis

I am new to WordPress and have 2 questions.

    1. Will all of the Appthemes Themes work on the "Genesis" Framework?

    2. Are all of the Themes fully customizable?

    Thank you

    1. I am not aware of this being the case, or of anyone who may have tested running AppThemes on Genesis, but our themes are not specifically designed for use with it as we have our own framework.

    2. Yes, our themes are not encrypted (apart from some in the Vantage footer which allows for rounded corners in IE), so essentially you can customize to your hearts content ;)

    Thanks.

Pepsi I forgot to ask, you noted that there are some limitations with the Vantage footer.

    1. Can I modify the color, style and height of the footer?

    2. You wrote "IE," are you referring to Internet Explorer?

    3. In you response to questions number 2. RE: Vantage footer limitations with IE (Internet Explorer), how do we correct/address this issue?

    Thanks for the response Pepsi!

The framework is just part of the theme. Vantage, being our most recent theme has the framework we're using from this point on.

    1. It's not that there are limitations in Vantage as such, it's that unlike all of our other themes where the themes are fully unencrypted, there is a small portion of encryption in the footer which is explained in this quote from our Operations manager in another thread. I mentioned this in the interest of full disclosure regarding encryption:

IE9 - and older - does not render gradients and rounded corners together. If you try, you get the gradients but not the rounded corners. The solution to this is to use SVGs to add gradients. See a tutorial here ( http://tutorials.jenkov.com/svg ).

Adding the SVG wouldn't seem to require encoding but it's the most efficient way to deliver the SVG. Referencing the SVG file can be buggy and requires an extra HTTP request. URL encoding eliminates the extra request but creates a pretty long string. Base 64 coding also eliminates the request but is smaller. You can read more about that here: http://r.korrelboom.com/css-backgrou...opera-with-svg
    2. Yes, by IE, I meant Internet Explorer.

    3. The information above explains why it is required, but it shouldn't change your ability to make customizations. Thanks.

Thanks Pepsi 2 more questions, I am new to WordPress, but learning and loving it.

    1. Are AppTheme Themes' Parent Themes or Child Themes? If one of your recommended Developers modify s a theme that is purchased, are they modifying the original files/Parent theme to create a new child theme. How does that work? I did review the tutorials and explanations, and I understand a little, but not completely.

    2. If we purchase the Classipress or the Vantage and want to modify the site which package to you recommend? The Developers package?

    Thank you, TM

    No problem ;)

    1. The themes we sell on our main themes page are parent themes, and you also have the option to purchase ready made child themes created by AppThemes or other developers in the AppThemes marketplace. There is a nice little explanation of Child themes one of our customization pages:

The main idea is this: when you create a file in the directory of the child theme, you overwrite the corresponding file in the parent theme.
So, for example, if you create a single.php file in your child theme, WordPress will use that, instead ofsingle.php from the parent theme.
Basically by creating a child theme, you're not messing with the parent theme files. As well as the child theme documentation on our own site, you can also find other information on the WordPress codex.

    2. The difference between the standard and developer license is that the developer license includes the Photoshop .psd files. These are useful for web designers who may wish to redesign the layout of the theme (they contain all the size, color etc information within them already). In saying this, you still need knowledge of html/css in order to make use of them, so if you don't, you may not find a use for these and therefore the standard license would be perfectly suitable. You can always upgrade from standard at a later time if you need to anyway. Thanks.
