I am considering the jobroller theme for a client. He runs a recruitment business for architects and engineers.

At this time the owner will be the only person posting jobs on the site so my questions is would it be possible to suppress the post job for external users or how is this handled.

    He also needs
    - to publish jobs and get them 'propagated' to as many people as possible
    - to keep candidates updated on latest jobs (building up a mailing list)
    - optimise site for seo
    - upload 16,000 existing resumes (how can this be achieved ?)
    - have news letter sign up

Can you advise if this theme is suitable for this client?

Suppressing the job listing is not a standard option but could be done with a small amount of customization. If you created a child theme, you can remove the links and buttons for submitting a job.

    - to publish jobs and get them 'propagated' to as many people as possible
    - to keep candidates updated on latest jobs (building up a mailing list)
JobRoller has a job alerts system that allows users to sign up for email notices when jobs are created that fit their criteria.

    - optimise site for seo
WordPress is great for SEO. Add a plugin like Yoast SEO and you're going to do well.

    - have news letter sign up
JobRoller does not have a newsletter signup function built in but there are several plugins you can try. Just search for "newsletter signup" plugin at the WordPress plugin directory.

    Thanks Shannon,

Can you tell me more about creating a child theme, is this something that |I can do and how much coding knowledge would that require. Also if we take off the post job form the fornt end can i assume thia will still work on the backend in the wp tool?

Also is there a way to merge 16000 resumes easily?

    Thanks David

You can read more about customizing our themes, including creating a child theme from our developer center documentation here, with more specific information about child themes from the WordPress codex here. Yes you could certainly prevent posting of jobs from the front-end and post only via the wp-admin if you wanted to, simply by removing the ability to register on the site.

In order to migrate a large amount of resume data you would likely need some knowledge of mysql admin, as there is no specific tool within JobRoller which will import resumes. WordPress itself has an import/export tool, however this would still require some additional database side changes to ensure resumes are migrated to the correct location.

You may wish to note that we do have a certified partners page where you can find developers for hire who are experienced at working with our products. If you make contact directly with an outline of your requirements, they can provide a quote for the work. Thanks.
