    is it possible to set up payments between the person who buys the ad and the person who wishes to purchase the ad product... so buyers and sellers can use paypal directly on the site instead of having to arrange payment off the site?

    This is not how the theme itself works, so would involve customization of the theme on your part, but effectively yes, it is possible.
