Is it possible to put categories right in the navigation bar?

Can this be easily customized later? I.e. instead of having categories in the drop down, i'd like to have some categories list prominently (i.e. Home, All categories, cat 1, cat 1, About Blog).

With some customization on your part, yes this is achievable. In fact there are existing threads relating to this (including code change info) which has been shared within the forums.

I would imagine the category widget would suffice for the categories and creating links in a text widget would also work.

Just a quick solution.
