I'm squinting at the screen trying to find an upload option for the authors profile. All I see is a blank avatar image. Pretty sure its somewhere...

P.s cause I'm not a customer I can't view the similar threads, which I'm sure has the answer.

It can be done through the use of a plugin or through gravatar.

I think this feature should be built-in for all themes. These premium themes have profile pages with blank profile "pictures".

For JobRoller the avatar is linked to the users email address, and when the user signs up to gravatar.com they can manage the profile picture from there. Other themes such as ClassiPress require the use of a plugin. If you would like to submit a feature request you are welcome to do so in the AppThemes Ideas Exchange. This is where the community can submit and vote for ideas, and our development team can review them for inclusion in a future release. We can't guarantee that every one will be implemented, but if it's something that the community wants, these are taken into consideration. Thanks.
