Question about making changes to Vantage

    Hi,

I am a current user of DirectoryPress and have become very unhappy with the support that they provide and the direction the theme is heading. They have made several changes to DP that I am not happy with. With that being said I have looked over Vantage and like what I see but am in need of asking a few questions.

    1. I see by looking in the Pre-Sales Question area that Vantage doesn't support a static homepage. I also seen this site referenced in one of the topic http://www.marietta.net/. This site has a static homepage for their site. Can you tell me has this question been asked in the support forums for Vantage? I am aware that they are using a child theme. Is there a child theme available to has this option available to use a static homepage?

    2. Is there any tutorials on how to use Vantage with a static homepage?

    3. I currently have over 500 business listing in my current version of DP. In DP there is the option to shut off the ability for a business to add a listing. Can this be done also with Vantage? This is a site for a chamber and they control the business listings.

    Thank you

Although the theme isn't specifically designed for the static homepage to be used, it can be done with some modification of the theme as you have seen from some examples in the Vantage customer showcase. There is currently one Vantage child theme available in the AppThemes marketplace, but this does not have a static homepage.

There are no official tutorials for creating a static homepage at this time, although there are some discussions around this in the forums to indicate how it can be done. There is documentation available for customizing the Vantage theme though, and you're welcome to leave a comment on that blog post for feedback from the development team regarding the possibility of creating such a tutorial.

Yes, you can prevent listings being created by anyone but the site admin simply by disabling registrations, or removing the "create listings/add a business" links. Thanks.

just to note: Marietta.net has switched to templatic's GeoPlaces. I own GeoPlaces as well and it is horrible. @Pepsi: You should remove Marietta.net from your Vantage customization showcase as they are now using a competitor theme. Why are they doing this? I don't know, maybe they are having a serious lapse in judgement. I wouldn't allow my worst enemy to use a Templatic theme. Templatic customer service is ridiculously horrible and their code is about as dirty as a 5 year old playing in a mud puddle.

    ...just saying
