My questions, please.

Hi.

Vantage is looking very good. Especially documentation and support.

Before I buy, I need to know for sure these things are possible with Vantage.
I've tried three other directory themes with much of expense and wasted time, but no luck.

1. Easily add page templates with slight design differences.

2. Add a sidebar on the left side of some pages (on a page template)

3. Replace the header with a slider on home page only. (for a masthead effect)

4. A section of introductory text between nav and listings on listings pages. Say in "List Page Top Sidebar," below map?

5. use webfonts? (cufont, or font-face for h1)

6. Create a search widget for sidebar. (Don't need a "where" in my search bar, as it's for one city, nor such a big, prominent bar)

4-6. All essentially relate to customizations, so yes they can technically be done if you wish to make these modifications. Vantage is not encrypted, so you are free to customize it as you wish. Thanks.

child theme updates?

Thanks for your answers. I'm not afraid to customize, but just want to make sure my mods are possible, as they were not realistically feasible in other themes.

One question on child themes. I'll have to make my own, but i'm worried about updating, based on some stuff seen on the forum, as in "compatible with Vantage version x."

Is it difficult to update a child theme?

In the past, it hasn't been an issue. The child theme just works with whatever version of the main theme.

Technically any modification is possible, and based on what you've described - the changes you wish to make are mostly aesthetic, and therefore shouldn't realistically clash with actual theme functionality.

Any time a new version of Vantage or even WordPress is released you'd certainly expect to have to check for compatibility before you assume you can just jump in an update. For minor releases it's probably less of an issue, but still you'd need the appropriate tools to compare files and carry out testing just as our child theme developers do to ensure their child themes are still compatible with the latest release of the theme.
