reCAPTCHA being bypassed in classipress 3.3.3 . How do I fix?

I'm running a classipress 3.3.3 site and have employed reCAPTCHA on my user registration page to stop bots signing up however this does not seem to be working. I have tested the CAPTCHA and cannot create an account if the words are omitted or incorrectly entered.

Currently I'm getting about 2500 - 3000 new bot registrations in 2 days old NIGHTLY BUILD WEBSITE ... When I check log entries I can see that the bot attempts to register were blocked by captcha a couple of times before they manage to successfully register. What I have done so far was to renew my captcha keys, force case sensitive and also changed admin and database passwords just in case.
