Show listings by location?

I'm envisioning using the Classipress theme for a location based ad service, specific to people wanting to sell a specific type of item.

Is there any functionality built in that will allow people to view all items in a specific category, based on the location (city and/or state) of that posting?

Similar to how Craigslist has subdomains set up for each major city (boston.craiglist.org, atlanta.craigslist.org, etc), but without having to a) set up all of those separate subdomains, and b) having to maintain them.

It can be done through the use of Wordpress MU though it may require some form of customization to fully implement.

Assuming I don't want to do separate subdomains (which I don't), is there a way I can create a menu option that is by location, or add location to search?

It can be done with a plugin as what other users have done.

Could you provide the name of that plugin, or point me to some threads that have information about it? Before I buy the theme, I want to make sure it'll do what I want it to.
