    Simple Website Directory

    Hi there,

I'd like to use Vantage with the Colored or Virage child themes to create a simple website directory with free listings with no time limit.

Is it possible to remove the events & maps features?

Can I remove the capability to have featured listings?

Do I have the option to approve every listing before it goes live?

I would like to have just the website name, "Listed In" categories, URL, Facebook & Twitter links, brief description and the "Add to Favorites" interaction on the listing page. Can I easily remove the "added by" line, star rating, address line, phone number line, "Contact Listing Owner" button, reviews tab and map?

Can I limit new signups to selecting just one listing category?

Is it possible to get e-mail addresses and names for everyone who has created a listing (just in the backend, not posted online in their listing)? I would like to be able to message all directory members at once with key updates, whether that's from the dashboard for the directory or exporting the list to MailChimp or something like it.

Please let me know which of these things I am able to change and if I can edit from the Dashboard or if PHP edits are required for these things.

    Thank you in advance!

    Claire

In the Vantage admin dashboard you can enable/disable events functionality easily using a check box option. The main map which appears on the homepage of the demo site is an optional widget you can choose not to activate. Complete removal of map functionality though, would require customization on your part.

Yes you can enable/disable featured listings within the themes admin dashboard.

Yes you can set for listings to be moderated before they are published.

You would need to carry out some customization of the default theme code in order to remove specific fields as mentioned, however our themes are not encrypted, so you are free to make modifications if you wish.

Limiting listings to categories as described is not a default feature of the theme and would require customization.

The user database and email information is already stored in your "Users" page of the WordPress admin dashboard, so extracting that for use as mentioned would be something you'd need to do through use of a plugin or other method as there is no default mail management feature in the theme.

    Thanks.

Question about disabling Map function in Directory Child Theme

My questions are about the Directory Child Theme for the Vantage theme.....

I am wanting to build a Directory for listing websites, therefore need to disable the map function.

I read your response: "The main map which appears on the homepage of the demo site is an optional widget you can choose not to activate. Complete removal of map functionality though, would require customization on your part."

Would you please clearify a couple of things for me....

    1. Is this optional widget for the Map.... is it a plugin that must be purchased? or is it a widget already in the theme.....
    2. So if the Map widget is disabled, the map function is off... will this create problems else where within the settings? Is the Map function required for something?
    3. If you can disable the map widget, why would I need to remove the map function?

    Thank you mucho!

    1. The widget is built into the theme by default, it is not a separate plugin.
    2. If the map widget isn't used then the large map won't appear on the main index page. There is still a map that appears within the listing form itself.
    3. As above, the widget mentioned only controls the map in one location, not the one found in the listing page. Thanks.
