On the home page we are going set it up so we see all 50 State Names, then when a user clicks a state, We want it to show the SubCategory Cities that we enter, but we do NOT want them to see any listings until they have selected a state.

Our thinking is that we should be able to do this...

Basically if you have the coding knowledge, you can achieve pretty much whatever you want when it comes to customizations. I have seen people mention they want to do this, but I haven't seen a working example I can refer you to.

and what if we do not use any subcategories ? i.e. just the main category.. then it shows up everywhere as "no categories" written under the main categories - how to get rid of this "no categories" ? Thanks

This can easily be removed by commenting out some code.
