    Taxes, Affiliates and Theming...

    Hi,

    First time I've considered Classipress so have a few questions;

    * Can it handle sales tax / GST (I'm Australian)? we have a 10% GST here on every sale. Will Classipress send the correct data to Paypal so it calculates correctly?

    * I've seen a few posts asking whether it's possible to integrate Affiliates into Classipress but with no response. I'd like to have affiliates earn a percentage of each classified ad posted from clients they refer, which I guess would be implemented by a coupon system. It would also be good to have a time out on this so say after 6 months they stop receiving the percentage.

    * Themes - from what I can understand Classipress is both a theme and a plugin for WP. How easy is it to change the layout / look of the site? ie, all the Showcase websites look largely the same other than color, and it looks a little dated.

Any help much appreciated as Classipress is the best classifieds plugin I've seen over Joomla, Drupal and Standalone apps...

You have the option to select Australian currency within ClassiPress, so this won't be an issue.

There is no affiliate integration at present, and I don't know if it's something that is likely to ever be implemented down the track? I can find out more and will let you know.

ClassiPress is a theme, not a plugin. If you install CP on an existing WP site it will take over the existing theme. If you have enough coding knowledge it should be easy for you to customize the theme to your requirements. I agree the showcase itself is a little out of date, as it went up early on when the forums first started, but there are definitely some amazing customizations out there that look very different to the out of the box theme.

You could check the showcase and feedback thread for more recent examples http://wpclassipress.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3. Some great looking ones I have seen recently include: http://www.boardjoy.com/, and http://runninghorses.net/ to name a couple..

If you weren't aware, ClassiPress 3.0 is to be released in the near future, and the look of this is again very different to the existing theme (as well of loads more features). If you are planning to purchase CP, I would suggest you do this before the nest version comes out as the licence prices are set to increase. Since upgrades are free, you will be able to get 3.0 at no extra cost. http://wpclassipress.com/sneek-peek-at-classipress-3-0/

    Hope this info helps :D

    Hi Pepsi,

    Thanks for the reply.

Just to confirm - the ability to select Australian currency also sets GST/tax rate?

Re the plugin/theme - apologies; I come from a Joomla background where functionality comes in the form of extensions/plugins and Themes are literally the look and feel only. I'll do bit of playing to make sure I've got the subtleties of WP down pat :)

I had seen 3.0 is due soon, so will probably get 2.9.3 (or latest) and then play and get a bit happy with it but wait till 3.0 to go live as I'm sure there will be changes under the hood and I'd hate to get any custom work done then have to figure out how to redo it come 3.0

Re affiliates - thanks for seeing what you can find out. I take it that it's possible to add onto CP, and so possibly add this feature myself (or get someone to!)? If so are there any rules I need to know in order to make maintaining the affiliate features easier? and/or is it possible to have it added into the main release?

    Many thanks,

    Many thanks,
No, I don't think this is the case. You can only select the currency, taxes are not calculated within the sale.
Always treat everyone with respect and courtesy, but trust no one.

Yeah there are no specific settings for tax rates, just the fact you can select AUD.. In saying this as well though, there are a number of Australian based CP sites out there who obviously don't have issues with this side of things. Perhaps even contacting one of them may give you an idea of what they do about tax.
