Unsure what photoshop (.psd) filed entails

I am looking to purchase my first theme Vantage and am aware of the two different types: Single Theme Standard & Single Theme Developer. The difference between the two is that Single Theme Devoloper includes photoshop (.psd) files. If you can please tell me:

    -what these are?
    -what they do?
    -benefits of having it?
    -Loses of NOT having it?

That would be appreciated and will generate a sale for app themes!

The Photoshop .psd files are useful for web designers who wish to change the layout of the theme, as they contain all of the information about sizes, colors etc used. If someone is wanting to redesign the layout, it will essentially save them a lot of time having the details readily available to work with.
If you are not intending to make such changes to the theme, then you will likely never need to use these files, so there would be no benefit in purchasing the developer license in that instance. It may also be useful to know that if you purchase standard edition to begin with, you always have the option to upgrade to developer edition at a later time if you discover you need those files after all. I hope this information helps. Thanks :)

So, if I were to utilize the 50% promo and I chose the standard option, how much would it cost to upgrade to the developer version?

Also, could you give me more examples as to what you mean by redesgining the layout? If I would like to change the colors to custom colors, and make the buttons say different things (Instead of "Add a Business" it will say "Add a Listing") will I need these photoshop files? At what point of redesinging would I need these files? and are these files just measurements or the pictures themselves? Very confused beginner :X

    Thanks again

Generally the upgrade price from standard to developer edition is just the difference in price between the two. The hosting discount can only be used once, so essentially you're only going to receive that 50% discount for the first purchase.

If you're just changing colors and some text then you likely won't need the actual Photoshop files, but we would recommend you create a child theme in order to make the changes to ensure you don't lose your modifications when you update the theme. Our Vantage customer showcase has some good examples of Vantage where the default layout has been changed from which you see on the Vantage demo. Even with the Photoshop files, you still need some knowledge of css/html in order to actually make use of them, so if you would class yourself as a beginner, then you probably won't find a use for them.
