Use child theme to edit search field in header?

I see someone else mentioned this in the comments but didn't see a followup. I'm very interested in purchasing Vantage but want to make sure I can do the design edits I want.

Can the search fields in the header be edited so they aren't so HUGE? I'm assuming I'll also be able to use whatever size background image I want in the head if using a child theme?

Yes, but only possible through code customization. The theme is not encrypted, so it can be modified according to your skills and requirements. If you are not comfortable with codes, you may contact one of Appthemes certified community partners http://www.appthemes.com/partners/ or ask for help in our related forums.

Thanks. But wouldn't any theme upgrades would wipe out any code changes?

I do some basic coding so will be comfortable editing a child theme. So my question is, can I customize the search field size as well as the header image size with a child theme? thanks...

Yes, you can create a childtheme and customize those things and nearly anything else.

OK, great! I've worked with WP for awhile and haven't done a child theme yet but feel comfortable with it, just wanted to make sure I could edit the design a bit with one. Vantage seems to have all the features I really want for a business directory I'm planning. thanks again.
