If you don't wish to change your existing homepage at all then yes, installing it as you describe is a perfectly suitable alternative, and one that many customers do. Outside of this, you'd use Vantage as the homepage theme, but customize it to look like your existing homepage. That's viable if you have the coding knowledge to make the necessary css modifications.
