What to buy

I interested into starting my own classifieds ads website and fully customate the template.
Do one need child themes for this? I dont fully understand what child themes are and
if they do make the job of completely changing the template any easier?

Creating a child theme will prevent you from losing all of your modifications in the process of an upgrade, so it's definitely recommended if you're planning to make a lot of changes to the default theme. You can read a little more about this in our child theme documentation. Thanks.
