Category Depth - Not filtering/restricting child/sub categories

Can someone pls clarify if this is a bug or not?

The issues is that the Category Depth option is not restricting the display of child/sub category fields.

So if you have:
Main Category = "Accommodation":
"Sharing" as a child/sub category of Accommodation
"Flatshare" as a child/sub category of "Sharing"
"Houseshare" as a child/sub category of "Sharing"

Then if your Home Page Category Options has a Category Depth = 1 setting
I would expect to see:
Accommodation
> Sharing

But instead see:
Accommodation
> Sharing
> Flatshare
> Houseshare
