Changing thumbnail size on home page - and then resizing text to fit round it

I would like to use larger thumbnails for the extracts on the homepage. I think I've worked out how to use larger images, but it then pushes all the text that should be beside it to below it.

Where can I reside the container that the text is in so that it moves back to where it should be, beside the image?
