Child Themes - Am I too late?
Hi
I have worked with Joomla for quite a no. of years and it doesnt faze me a bit but i think i may have made a error when customising the css for the site I am buiilding using Classipress, I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction.
I didnt know about child themes till after i had made a lot of css changes and i'm a bit unsure now how to proceed to 'protect' my site design during upgrades/updates
I have modified a no. of the classipress css files, to be honest theres enough changes that cant track what has been changed and whats original now.
So, the question is this..
If i create a new child theme do i copy over ALL the styles sheets i have modded or just the lines i have changed?
Am i in fact right that this is what u do?, eg if i changed some code in red.css i simply copy the modified lines over?
If this is the case and I do copy the whole red.css (cos i am daft enough not to have documented the changes i made!!) if theres an update it's just going to read any 'new' code and use the child theme code?
Or....
Can i use the modified child theme red.css (copied into the child theme style.css) and replace the modified classipress red.css to the parent theme. with the original file?
I really dont want to have to go thru line by line finding all the changes i made
To be honest I am not even sure that copying the changes to the child theme css is the thing i should be doing?
Anyone got any sage advice for a
WP newb?
Cheers
