    Client came back!

    Hi all,

I had some major issues with setting up Classipress for a client. They left, and now are back to see if the the issue can be resolved.
If this can happen it will not only extend the idea in a possible future consideration for Classipress, but two other developers with Classipress specific plugins would benefit as the client as also approved the purchase of their plugin.

    The Problem:
I need to have a custom home page for Classipress, not the default listing screen.
Setting the landing/home screen using Settings > Reading > Static (then chosing whatever) does not work and make the listings view impossible (Listings is currently the out-of-the-box Home screen).
Basically I need a way to have the first page be an "intro" with some text and a branding image, not the out-of-the-box listings view.

My menu structure needs to be:
    - Home (my custom page with text and branding, no listings)
    - Categories (currently ok as is)
    - Listings (currently the out of the box Home page - I need to have this as a link not as a default as current)
    - Ads & Rates
    - About Us
    - Contact Us

Your help would be greatly appreciated! and very needed!

    Thanks.

Should be piece of cake mate

    hints:

    1. change your index.php file as you wish

    2. Create another page template with current home page code(index.php code)

    3. create a page with this template and publish

note: there might have some plugins as well to do your job.. just search on google

    Thanks for the feedback ahikmahin.

Which one of the index files do I modify?

    domainname.com\index.php (the root index)
    or
    domainname.com\wp-content\themes\classipress\index.php (clissipress index)

I create a root index.html file that seem load and to work, and would appear before the Classipress.
However, when I try to point it to "domainname.com\wp-content\themes\classipress\index.php" it keeps loading/returning to the root index.html.

Also, no luck on Google search for a fix/solution found as yet.
Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?

    Thanks.

One solution would be to have your whole wordpress istallation with your classipress theme website set up in a sub-directory and have your landing page set up in the root directory, which then links to the index of the sub-directory

    For example:

domainname.com/index.php (your own root index landing page)

    domainname.com/sub-directory/index.php (the classipress index page)

the long path to this would actually be:
    domainname.com/sub-directory/wp-content/themes/classipress/index.php (the root index)

    Hope that helps

    Thanks talent

That's the best solution I have heard so far...
I will give that a try.

    I will create a sub-directory called "Listings"
I guess I need a new install of WP in that new sub-directory?
or can I just manually move everything in the current root in the new sub-directory?

    - So basically move everything into Listings sub-directory
    - Create new index.html in root and point to domainname.com/Listings/

I think you idea will work.
    Thanks.

    You are welcome!

I have created my test site in a sub-directory. Instead of moving it I intend to make a landing page that links to it. So I hope it works!

I'm not sure about just moving it. Theoretically it should work, but you will need to make sure all your paths are updated, including in the database.

Good luck! If you need a hand give me a shout
