feature slider missing, then only one way to see it again.

Hi can someone shed some light on the feature slider display.

my experience is i have never decided to make a feature ad or sticky ad and have not set any prices.
before while im testing ads , i post them the usual way but never had to click make feature box, and more than 5 listings automatically went in to the feature slider.

but today for first time i tested the feature option just to see if my feature label shows up and label showed.
so i disable the feature price module hoping it will just show my normal ads in slider and even added 7 more but slider not showing them.

but now the only way now to get ads in slider is edit ad and make feature.

so can i ask is this normal behavior
