How to remove the categories block from the front page

Does anyone know what code has to be removed in the index.php file to remove the Ad categories block from appearing on the front page. I don't want customers to see empty categories. It makes any website just starting up look like they are not very busy. Will add the category back when categories start to generate numbers. Can someone advise.
