    Improper code permanently breaks site

I made a mistake in theme-footer.php and I now get the following error message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /home/usmotorc/public_html/wp-content/themes/classipress/includes/theme-footer.php on line 58I can no longer go back to correct it and it is permanently broken unless I upload a new copy of theme-footer.php. This has happened to me before. Why is that and can this be corrected?
