Jigging the main page

Hi there,

I am looking to rejig my main page, I feel that it isnt very user friendly showing the catergories first and would rather have the "just listed" to be the first thing my viewers see. Is there any easy way of doing this, and also I read somewhere there needs to be 5 featured ads before the slider will work, is this correct?
