Log in/registration issue

Just uploaded my theme to the internet. Thought I would try posting an ad as a stranger to check the process.

Logged out first. Clicked "post an ad" button and it went straight to the log-in screen, with no register option on it.

Tried it from a different laptop and the same thing happened - this laptop had never been to the online site before so it couldn't have been recognised as a previous visitor.

I know there is (or used to be) a register option with the log in screen but perhaps I've disabled it somehow? Can you tell me what piece of code I need to check to ensure it's there. And if the code hasn't been changed, what else could be the problem? There IS a registration option when someone clicks the "post an ad" button without logging in, isn't there? Or did I dream it?
