Questions about Home Page, Header and Search

Hi

I have looked through all the php files in the admin area, and I have searched this forum using all combinations of phrases to find the answers to these questions. The nearest I get is someone says "yes, search the forums, it's already been discussed" - but I can't find any of these threads, so after 2 hours of looking I am going to post the questions here:

SEARCH HEADER QUESTIONS

Search in the header – change the wording “what are you looking for?” to something else – which file do I find the text in to edit?

I followed your tutorial and changed a child theme to black and now the search button seems to have disappeared, although if you click on where it should be, it works, there’s just no icon. How do I make it re-appear, or re-insert it?

Also, how/where do I change the colour of the search button?

Want to keep the Ad Categories box on the Home page but want to change the title from Ad Categories to something else. Which file do I find the code to change it

I want to make a static home page - how to make that Ad Categories part of it?

The “welcome Back” User box in the sidebar on the homepage, and the “just listed/most popular/random box – how do I get rid of them from the homepage? I can't find which file to edit.

I made a simple search box as a widget and although it allows me to name the box what I like it still says “what are you looking for” in the seach instructions. Where do I go to change that?

And as for adding more filters to a search - from what I've read here it seems that I'm not alone. Again I found a thread that said "the answer is in another thread" but no link to it, and it wouldn't turn up in my various searches, so please can you either tell me how to do it, or post an actual link to the thread where it's explained.
