for expire_date the format reads dashes and not slash, is there a code

for expire_date the format reads dashes and not slash, is there a code i could enter to read both? i uploaded thousands with dashes for expiration and it makes all the coupons not show on store pages. format i uploaded for expire date is 09/12/2011 instead of 09-12-2011
