Vantage: Searching via custom fields created by Form Builder

Hi everyone. First off great work on this theme!

I have created some additional listing fields via the Custom Form builder, and I would like to be able to add these fields as search criteria to the main search form of the website.

Take the following example: I have created a field called "Monthly Rate" with the custom form builder which is a dropdown select box with options for under $500, $500-600, $600-800, $800-1000, Over $1000, etc... I would like for visitors to be able to search the listings by Name, Location, AND "Monthly Rate", with the monthly rate field being a dropdown select box with the options I've mentioned.

I've done some research on the topic and according to the forum post at http://forums.appthemes.com/vantage-questions-36004/, Shannon has said that "Unfortunately, custom fields created with the form builder are not searchable"

So my question is, if these custom fields created with the form builder are not searchable then what do you recommend I do to accomplish this functionality? This is a requirement for the project I'm working on so somehow it needs to be done. Any help or push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
