Description Editor Disappointment and Request
Okay, this is one of those postings you have to make. At the same time, I think it's needed.
I've been messing around with the Vantage theme for about a week now and there is a lot to like about it. Having said that, there are things that really confuse me from a usability standpoint. One of those things is the lack of a simple editor for the description area for listings.
It's now 2014, and all the descriptions look like they could have been done with 'notepad'. I'm not saying they need to be overblown, but some basic functionality or formatting on the backend would go a long way in making the directory more pleasing and pleasant to look at.
Imagine spending days/hours polishing the front of the site only to get to the listing itself and it's BLAH. Straight text, boring, and plain.
Now, based on what I've seen, I'm probably going to get a response saying it can be customized in a child theme. That's great, but it's like saying, we should have a child theme to allow for postings in the first place. There are some things that should be considered as standard in an application like this.
Classipress has a WYSIWYG editor
JobRoller has TWO WYSISWG editors
Clipper Has a WYSIWYG editor
Idea Theme even has a basic editor
All of the above products are from AppThemes, yet the Vantage product gets NOTHING for an editor and people are here trying to figure out how to include an editor through a child theme and custom code. Really?
I'm sure there are tons of things on your 'to-do' list, but including a simply editor in Vantage needs to be one of them. Not having one is just plain crazy.
Sorry to rant, but it's frustrating to see something so basic having to be address with custom coding and child themes.
