Modify - Child Themes

Hey Guys,

So major rookie here so please bear with me.


I bought vantage and have created a local directory. I know nothing about website anything. But I was able to do alot of modification/customization using Google etc. Now that the site is running, I'm realizing that I was suppsed to do some duplicate thing called a "child theme"? to do all my customizations... I have no idea about this. So i'm told, if i go to update etc, i will lose all my customization which is not good since I've put alot of work into it.

My question is, can I take what I've got, save it, and export or whatever I need to do and then use it as a child theme? Does that make sense? Or since I've gone this far am I totally screwed and I have no option but to update and REDO everything.

My next question is, I want to create another site but keep all the same customizations I've done. How do I do this? I'm led to believe i'm allowed to use this template as many times as I want and don't have to repurchase each time...correct?
