    Website/Page Loading Speed Issues

    I installed Wordpress and the Vantage theme on a Windows server - A host I have used for non-WP sites for years with success.
    A straight wordpress install without the Vantage theme results in a 3 second home page download time.
    A WP install with Vantage theme containing only one listing takes 8 seconds or more. At times up to 30 seconds.
    Second view stats are also very high at 5-8 seconds.

    Permalinks: I currently have them set to %postname%, however have tried /%category%/postname%/ and numeric ids

    The big time hog seems to be loading the initial byte which is nearly 7 seconds.

    Before I push the hosting provider too hard I wanted to hear what experiences and solutions the community has had with page loading times.
