Would you list businesses yourself just to keep the quality of your listings up?

I know everyone is excited about this theme and I am also. I've been reading a lot about "how to run running a successful directory" type blogs, posts etc...My thing is always quality before anything else. I don't want a crappy directory or one that a business would say they would pass than list their business in it.

Someone online brought a good point about their own experiences running a directory and what they found to happen over time.

• Crappy images from businesses
• Content that wasn't SEO optimized
• Tags not related to the listing to
• Descriptions weren't fully filled in

I know most want to run your directories on auto-pilot but I know from creating websites for myself and clients, it is work! My question to all of you would be:

Would you consider running your directory where you control the listings all the time?

So instead of having a business add their own information, you would insert their business information for them to make sure the quality of the directory stay up to par with your standards. You would have a form with the same information needed to put into a business listing. Is this a good idea? What do you think?
