How to download the latest unreleased version of WordPress
The great thing about WordPress is it's an open-source product which is freely available to anyone.
One of my favorite things about this is getting my hands on the latest unreleased version before it's available to the masses.
Not only is it fun to see what the next version is going to include and look like, it's important for us to see how we can leverage these new features in our themes.
Now you can already find the
nightly build directly on the WordPress downloads tab but it's kind of a pain to download, unzip, upload, and then install.
Fortunately there's a great plugin called the "
WordPress Beta Tester" that allows you to easily grab and install the nightly bleeding edge code. Keep in mind this will contain some bug since it's the latest and greatest, but it's what I always use locally.
Go get the
plugin and once you've installed it, select the "bleeding edge nightlies" download option. It will automatically upgrade your site and off you go!
