Hello Classipress team,

I would like to make a request that I feel all of us would benefit from.

I see that there is a lack of Business Directory plugins for wordpress. Having said that, I would love to have a business directory function built into Classipress with (free listings) initially.

I created a Business Directory Form Layout with custom fields such as: Business Name, City (with drop-down menu), and Description / Services. However, the TITLE field is core and cannot be modified or deleted, so this is issue number 1.

I created a category called Business Directory and clicked on Post Ad. I was pleased to see the following field names.

Business Name:

City: (my drop-down menu with all cities listed)

Description / Services:

2. Image Browse field(s) would need to be removed.
3. Featured Listing checkbox / field would need to be removed.
4. Ad Package field / selection box would need to be removed.
5. Payment Method would need to be removed.

Then click Continue and go to the Business Directory category and look at a business submission post.

It appears as if it is pretty much done already, just needs some code tweaking by David.

Profile Directory

ClassiPress already allows visitors to view other ads posted by the same advertiser through their profile page, but it does not currently provide visitors with an advertiser's profile directory. An optional advertiser's (business) directory listing would not only add a convenient means of locating people or companies with registered accounts, if implemented correctly it would be good for SEO. Additionally, while providing existing advertisers a value added service by making it easier for visitors to find their exclusive ads, it would also potentially provide a powerful tool for attracting new advertisers with a free directory listing.

The ideal implementation would allow advertisers to opt-in or opt-out of directory listing by ticking or un-ticking a professional/business/company membership box within the dashboard. Visitors would then be able to find participating member profiles by category or location, view an uploaded photo or logo, read a little about them, see a website link, access public contact details and browse any active ads the advertiser may have.

I'm not sure whether anyone else will see any value in this; maybe it's just me.

Sounds great, I would really like to see this implemented, it would be a very nice value add for sure.

While this isn't exactly what you described, it does provide a directory.

It says it isn't tested for WP 2.92, but it seems to work fine on my site and I am completely up to date.

I am glad to see I'm not alone. Now maybe I can avoid one of those dreaded Macaulay Culkin moments.

I have been using the Business Directory for WordPress plugin. However, it does not offer integration with existing advertiser accounts, profiles with photo upload option, or provide a way of displaying ads posted by a specific advertiser. While it does offer a very basic category feature, there is no location option. Harnessing CP's existing profile feature would seem to offer some significant advantages.

@NetPotion - Thanks for the plugin link. I'll have to check it out. Until and unless there is a native ClassiPress directory feature, all options are definitely worth exploring!
