Add border images to left and right sides of my web page

I wanted to get a step by step instruction on how to ad images down the sides of my web page (outside of the outermost border of the webpage. The other tutorial seems really coagulated and as I am a beginner I just don't want to screw this up.

I would like the images to be as tall as the 1st page without having to scroll down to see the full image.
The width would probably be less than 400 pixels.
