Is Akismet compatible with ClassiPress

Hello!

We're getting a lot of spam-bot user registrations that are posting non-relevant classified ads on our ClassiPress site.

We installed and activated the respected Akismet Pro anti-spam plugin.

However, Akismet Pro doesn't seem to affect the number of bot user signups or bot classified ads.

Akismet technical support said our site (using the ClassiPress theme) doesn't seem to be communicating with their cloud server. They say this communication is necessary for Akismet to work.

Has anybody tried Akismet, and had any success with the ClassiPress theme? Perhaps there is a ClassiPress setting I need to change to make it work?

If Akismet is not compatible with ClassiPress, have any users found a different anti-spam plugin that worked with ClassiPress?
