Best caching plugin + javascripts in the footer

Using grid-mod 2.3.1 with classipress 3.3.3 - running on hostgator shared hosting. No CDN at present like cloudflare but will possibly migrate to using it soon.

Tried using W3 Total Cache as it is plugin I have used on many ordinary wordpress sites. However, image uploading appears to just sit there and do nothing. I have tried a number of settings in the plugin without success. There are a very large number of combinations in W3 total cache and would be grateful if the developers could give some pointers on the best configuration. I believe it is a plugin they recommend and use themselves.

I have managed to use the super cache plugin successfully without issues but it is not the best caching plugin by any means.

Is there a guide or something on the correct settings?

+ moving javascripts to the footer (a popular wordpress plugin) also seems to break the home page featured slider. Just turns up blank.
