Feeds: Include images and custom feeds

I used the code at the RSS feed with pictures ? thread to display images in the feed. However, if I subscribe to the feed in Windows Live Mail or one of my other sites, there are no images. Has anyone resolved this internally (aka not using Feedburner, etc.).

Also, would like to know if anyone has created custom feeds such as Author feeds by category and what code or tools/plugins used to create these. I can get the author feed, but need to narrow it down to specific categories.
