Google Maps Optional?

Hi all...

I was wondering if there is a way to set up google maps/location so that it only appears if someone enters text in the field (when submitting)?
(its actually a bit frustrating, because the purpose of the site is to provide locations in english, but for people in japan. So of course in order to get a google map location, you have to type the address in in japanese, and it google only have so many places that show up in english at the moment...)

For example, a lot of my listings will not have physical locations, so they dont need a location section on the page.

Also, Im not sure whether to sort this out now or whether to wait for the upgrade, i cant wait, and am looking forward to it, thanks david!
