Increasing Page Width to 1080

Hello

I'm trying to widen the page width to 1080 to match our accompanying forums area. According to a suggestion in another thread I"ve added

#wrapper { width: 1000px;}

at the bottom of the master-rtl.css file and to test the setting I changed the line

.header_main_res { margin:0 auto; width:1080px;}

to include the 1080 figure.

Problem is, nothing is changing and the page width is still 940. Is there something that has to be added elsewhere to make this work?
