Only numbers allowed in price field

I've searched through the forum and tried to understand a few of the modifications that out there circulating however I've had no luck, so I'm hoping someone can either help me understand what these users have previously done or point me in the right direction as to another snippet of code that would be great for this modification I'm needing.

I'm looking to just have the price filed (when adding a new listing) have it set up that only numbers are required. If they put anything else in "Please Contact", "TBA" etc, it will return with an error so they MUST put in a number "349.00".

I've visited other threads in the forum and have tried to list them below as I'd appreciate not being sent to a previous thread as I've looked through the few that are already on here. I however can't list any of the URL's.........

I know where to find the files and how to modify php to a basic extent, but they haven't given much of a explanation. The "detailed" steps from franho is wrong as I can't find those lines in my step-functions.php file (maybe because this was from 2011 now?) and the answer that majig stated (3rd from bottom post) is even more confusing.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
