The recommended permalink structure

In the setup instructions for the permalinks it says...
I recommend using a custom structure with
/%postname%/ as the value. This is the best option for
SEO and will make all your posts have short urls at the root-level.
I understand the concept that it makes short URLs, but what happens if you get two posts with the same name? How does WordPress know which one to display?
