Status field

I need to add a Status field and display it before the ad title on the main listing page.

How do I do that?

I added the custom field but it does not show up on the main ad listings, you have to click on the actual ad to see it.

I want it to look like this:

WANTED:RED BICYCLE
Category: New York, Listed: 8 mins ago


also,

how can I search for ads by the Status field? lets say I only wanted to see ads with status WANTED.
