Too many password resets to retrieve the forgotten user

I've noticed that too many users are retrieving user and password every time they come back to the site.
Maybe, part of this behaviour is related to the login form. I mean, 2 fields are available (user and password) and the user normally knows easily the email instead of the chosen user name. Is it possible to adapt the standard solution (login form) to let the user inform user/email and password?
