after updating classipress can you revert to an old theme without losing mods?

I see that you can use a backup database from another post, but how would I do this.

I am just looking to test the new upgrade. Unfortunately I had to reinstall my local host so all the changes I made there, test ads etc have gone but on the live site all is working.

So basically I would like to try out the new one, if it breaks what I have done I would like to revert back to 3.14 without losing work I have put in. I have a child theme etc...
