User custom fields and rates

Hi there,

I had a few questions to try and solve my current problem wich is:
My client wants to have diferent rates based on the type of users, for example basic user will pay a small fee for posting and have his add featured, a member would have free adds a pros would pay a little more..

How would you suggest to proceed?
First I think I need to

add custom fields to the user registration to create groups

Is there a plugin or a function out there to help me do that? I haven't found any yet.

Also is there a better way to separate users in "categories"?

Next I need to assign different rates to each groups...
Is there some way to do that?

I first thought that I could use the membership tool to make "permanent dicounts" but that's a bit limited (if even possible) and goes backward.

Any help would be apreciated.
