Drop down for Parent Categorys wanted

Hi, i have alot of sub categories, and growing by the day, it sucks that users have to scroll through 500 irelevent categories to them before finding the 1 they want,

i need a drop down of parent categories for the user to select 1st, if they slect Horses.
Then in the next drop down it will only show horses.

then they can post an ad simple. easy without struggle.

would be nice as a search function aswell.

Can anybody do this please?
