    Classipress ads do not work after Wordpress update

    I have updated Wordpress on our site from 4.1.3 to 5.2.1, and now users cannot post new ads, if an ad category has subcategories.
    jQuery.ajax call in `theme-scripts.js` now returns empty response, thus no subcategories are shown and the 'next' button doesn't appear.
    Please advise.
