Currency Symbol

I have people from all over the world using my site. Is there a way to remove the currency symbol (maybe make it optional in the back end)?

Also, I have a lot of people that like to write "per month" or "Free" and the dollar sign shows up. I'd like to remove it for two reasons:

1) International users can type in their own currency symbol
2) People writing FREE or CALL ME won't have to look at a currency symbol in front of it.
